Perhaps not before time, but finally Anna Hidalgo the Mayor of Paris has given her assent to turn the city of Paris into one of the most beautiful tree lines gardens in the world.
She has given the go-ahead for plans to be progressed that would see the 1.9km (1.2m) champs-élysées become a green space to be proud of.
Pedestrians would be greeted by tunnels of trees, roads would be converted into pedestrian areas instead and traffic would be slashed by more than half.
The Guardian’s Kim Willsher in Paris reports on the plans along with Design Boom with a range of images and Mediaparte (subscription).
Five years after the Paris Agreement, the city still knows how to capture world attention.
