Witness Statement: 93-year-old Sir David Attenborough warns humans have ‘overrun’ planet

Sir David Attenborough has warned that “human beings have overrun the world” in a stark new film documentary to be released on Netflix.

In a trailer for the up and coming showing, the world’s best known nature commentator describes the movie as his ‘witness statement’.

He, along with activists such as Greta Thunberg, have been credited with a renewed awareness among people finally waking up to the world crisis on climate, sustainability and the affect on species.

A clip released online shows Attenborough in his early years contrasted with him now, and includes dramatic footage of the natural world.

In a sobering preview, he says: “I’ve had the most extraordinary life.

“It is only now that I appreciate how extraordinary.

“The living world is a unique and spectacular marvel, yet the way we humans live on earth is sending it into a decline.

“Human beings have overrun the world. We’re replacing the wild with the tame.

“This film is my witness statement and my vision of the future.”

“The story of how we came to make this our greatest mistake.

“And how, if we act now, we can yet put it right.

He adds: “Our planet is headed for disaster.

“We need to learn how to work with nature rather than against it and I’m going to tell you how.”

The movie length documentary will be released at a premier in London, where Sir David will take part in a live discussion about the film and its contents.

It will be broadcast in the UK, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Iceland, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand and Australia, and later on Netflix.
